NEC 0-6 Wexford
Wexford u12 outclass NEC
A Wexford side with five Cashin Cup Debutants proved to be too strong for their NEC opponents on Sunday afternoon in Kingscourt, County Cavan. Wexford would dominate this game from the first whistle with a notable performance from their in form striker Darragh Rossitor with a two goal tally that takes him to a total of five goals in his three games in the Cashin Cup competition so far as he continues his remarkable record of having scored in every game he has played for Wexford to date. It could have been better for Rossitor if it wasn’t for the in-form NEC keeper denying him chance after chance with some excellent saves throughout the first half and much of the second.
A very solid Wexford team pressed hard in a first half that saw them leading by four goals at the break. An impressive Seamus Casey would continuously raid down the right hand side and eventually one of his crosses was met by Darragh Rossitor who slotted home to give Wexford a well deserved 1-0 lead. Within minutes of the opening goal, Robert Coakley was denied a second goal having cooly finished from the edge of the box but was deemed off-side. It didn’t matter much for within minutes Coakley would burst through the middle of the NEC defence and extend Wexford’s lead. This was quickly followed by a powerful 25 yard drive from Noel Beever who extended the lead to 3-0 as Wexford threatened to run riot. Just before half time another Seamus Casey move down the right led to a cross that was once again finished by Darragh Rossitor as Wexford finished the half with a comfortable 4-0 lead.
The second half would see an NEC side try to make a fist of this game in the opening ten minutes but unfortunately Wexford proved to be to hard a side to break down, restricting NEC to one opportunity in the entire game. Wexford were comfortable and in control and as the half progressed further goals would follow. Noel Beever once again finished from the edge of the box with another powerful drive and with just ten minutes remaining, NEC allowed lots of room for another Seamus Casey cross which took an unfortunate deflection off an NEC defender for Wexford’s sixth. It’s a result that places Wexford on top of their group on goal difference ahead of the DDSL with just two games remaining against SDFL and Kilkenny.
