The u12, u14 and u15 county teams of to good start
The u12s travelled to Dublin and came away with a very good 2-1 win over NDSL on Saturday. The u14s played Wicklow at Curracloe on Sunday and had a great 6-1 win while the u15s fought back after a bad start to earn a well deserved draw again Dundalk also played at Curracloe. Well done to all managers and their teams.
A big thank you to Curracloe for the use of their facilities
NDSL 1-2 Wexford
On a perfect afternoon in Dublin, Wexford’s U12s put in a perfect performance against a much fancied opponent. Having lost the toss, Wexford would play with a strong wind behind them which proved to be more of a problem for NDSL. Wexford played good possession football which was noted by the watching Ireland’s former U19s manager Vinny Butler who complemented the team on the way they play their football after the game. In the first half Wexford created a number of chances. A move down the left involving Nathan Brennan ended with a good effort from Aaron Maddock being well saved. Soon after, a move down the right led to a Tony Crosby effort deflecting narrowly wide. There were other chances in the first half. Good saves were needed to deny efforts from Conor Sutton, Darragh Rossitor and Brendan Furlong. In a five minute spell of good pressure before half time a good move down the right saw a Tony Crosby pass release Alex Bergin into space inside the NDSL back four which led to a cross that was deflected for a corner. From the corner Darragh Rossitor met the ball on the half volley on the edge of the six yard box to put Wexford into a deserved half time lead. With the wind against them in the second half, Wexford’s passing game began to dominate the tie. Eoin McGucken came on for Brendan Furlong and made an immediate impact. McGucken took a long ball down from a Conor Sutton pass and played a perfect through ball to Darragh Rossitor who raced clear of the Dublin defenders to coolly finish with a chip over the keeper from 20 yards. Wexford had opportunities to tie up the game with a third but efforts from Nathan Brennan and Paul Brennan were denied by good saves from the Dublin keeper. In injury time, NDSL won a corner that would lead to what was to be a consolation goal. Next up for the under 12s will be the hosting of the DDSL on the 13th December in what should prove to be an interesting game.
Wexford 6 Wicklow 1
Curracloe was in pristine condition and was the perfect venue for inter league clash of Wexford’s U14s and Wicklow.
Fourteen of last season’s Kennedy Bowl winners were in the Wexford squad and 11 of them featured in Sunday’s starting lineup.
The home team, managed by Tommy Byrne, attacked from the kick-off and were one up in the first minute when Sean Roche finished well after being put through by Johnny St. Ledger. Roche almost grabbed a second goal when he was set up by Donal Shanley, but Wicklow levelled when Sean Harley smashed a free kick to the Wexford net. Shanley had another shot well saved by Stephen McGuinness before Wicklow’s Dean Doyle brought a great stop from Wexford keeper James Buckley. Then, in an amazing six-minute spell, Wexford went 4-1 up.
Sean Roche gave Wicklow keeper McGuinness no chance with a fine finish; Donal Shanley then found Johnny St. Ledger who made it 3-1 and the New Ross Celtic ace scored again shortly afterwards with a sweet strike from all of 20 yards.
Wicklow began the second half determined to reduce the arrears and Wexford keeper Buckley did well to tip a Cormac Breslin free kick onto the bar. Sean Harley wasn’t too far wide for the visitors with a drive before sub Stephen Gorman applied a lovely finish to make the scoreline 5-1 in Wexford’s favour. Another substitute, Stephen McGuire, made it 6-1 for the home side when he found the net after Kevin O’Connor had hit the woodwork with a free kick.

Wexford 1 Dundalk 1
Wexford U15s hosted Dundalk in their inter league clash at Curracloe and it was the visitors who were in front after just 90 seconds.
Irish under-16 international, Sammy Osovoe, was the goal scorer when he headed over the advancing Wexford goalkeeper, and the Dundalk striker was one of the main reasons why Wexford were under pressure in the opening 20 minutes.
Padraig Sinnott was busy between the posts, making a number of good saves and Ciaran Walsh, who had the job of marking Osovoe, put in a top notch performance. The score remained at 1-0 to half time and Wexford fought their way back into the game after the break. Gary Delaney and Stephen Tobin went close, then team manager PJ Murphy made five changes and pushed midfielder Timmy Dwyer up front. That move paid big dividends when Dwyer fired home the equalising goal following a scramble in the opposition’s penalty area, with just 60 seconds left on the clock.
