Wexford u12s and u15 continure their winning ways with big wins
THE WEXFORD Schoolboys League U12 and U15 ETP teams continued on their winning ways on Sunday with victories over Drogheda and NDSL.
The under-12s took on Drogheda in what was their second Cashin Cup group game at sunny Curracloe and played some excellent football to lead 5-0 at the break.
The final scoreline was 7-1 with Paul Carton (3), Eoin Porter (2), Eoin Doyle and Ronan Devereux scoring the goals.
Their tally could have been greater, with Conor Levingston particularly unlucky not to have got his name on the scoresheet, hitting the upright and crossbar.
The Drogheda goalkeeper also denied Wexford on a couple of occasions and one second half save from Paul Carton was really outstanding.
Next up for Will Doyle’s team is a home game against Kilkenny at Curracloe on Sunday, January 30th.
The Wexford U15s travelled to play North Dublin Schoolboys League in their John Farrell Cup group game and returned home with an impressive 3-0 victory.
Team captain Kevin O’Connor put Wexford ahead after four minutes when scoring from a Stephen McGuire corner kick.
Johnny St. Ledger brought a good save from the Dublin keeper and Donal Shanley wasn’t too far off target before St. Ledger made it 2-0 when set up by John Bridges.
The home side were pressing at the end of the first half and a great finger-tip save by Wexford goalkeeper James Buckley kept his team’s 2-0 scoreline intact to the break.
Wexford were on the attack again in the second half and Stephen McGuire and John Roche combined to set up John Bridges whose shot hit the woodwork.
But Wexford did score their third goal with eight minutes to go when good work by Donal Shanley and Kevin O’Connor put sub Paudi Bardon through and he finished well.
Team manager PJ Murphy was well pleased with his team’s performance and now looks forward to their next group game against Wicklow at Curracloe on Saturday, January 29th.
