Wexford 3-0 Crumlin Utd

Following their 8-0 win on Friday night versus the Emerging Talent, the Wexford U12s defeated Crumlin Utd in a good contest in Gorey’s Showgrounds last Sunday. This impressive Crumlin Utd team who are joint leaders in the Premier division of the DDSL contained many players who lined out for the DDSL in their Cashin Cup match last December against Wexford which finished in a 2-2 draw. So it would prove to be a good contest for this Wexford team. In a first half of very few chances it was Crumlin who controlled the majority of the possession with Wexford content on sitting back and letting them keep the ball. Like the DDSL game earlier in the season, Sulo Fuad proved a handful in the middle of the park with his movement a constant thorn in Wexford’s side.  That said Wexford’s Conor Sutton was the stand out player on the pitch controlling Wexford’s midfield with his subtle movement, excellent passing and strong tackling. This Wexford team is growing in reputation for not leaking goals and once again they proved to be solid and hard to break down. Wexford made very little ground going forward in the first half but the second half would see that change. Three half time changes altered the course of the game. Darragh Rossitor would make an immediate impact on the game with his movement and pace that led to him opening the score 5 minutes into the second half. Wexford were dominating at this point largely due to the introduction of Darragh Rossitor and Dale Kirwan who completely nullified Sulo Fuad’s influence on the game to a point that the midfielder was replaced. Aaron Maddock’s hold up play upfront was excellent as Wexford took control of the game. Conor Sutton took control of the ball in midfield and was allowed advance unchallenged towards the edge of the Crumlin box were he unleashed a shot that found the top corner to extend Wexford’s lead. Another move through the middle again involving a Conor Sutton pass to Aaron Maddock who controlled the ball instantly and unleashed a cracking shot that found the top corner for Wexford’s third goal. Darragh Rossitor had opportunities to extend the lead further but the Crumlin keeper and some good defending denied him the opportunity. Crumlin didn’t fold. They regrouped, made a few changes and began to make inroads towards the final ten minutes. But Wexford are a tough side to break down and this proved to be the case for this very impressive Crumlin team. Next up for Wexford’s U12s is a trip to Gores bridge on the 1st April for the first game in a double header against Kilkenny followed by a return game the following Wednesday in New Ross as Wexford continue preparations for the Kremmins Cup in June.
