Another Good Win for U12s
Wexford 1-0 SDFL
Wexford remain top of Group One of the Cashin Cup following this victory over South Dublin in a closely fought game in Curracloe on Sunday. Wexford started well with good possession football but SDFL slowly began to impose themselves on the game especially through their overloaded midfield were Conor Sutton and Dale Kirwan had to work hard to make any sort of impression. In a scrappy first half, Wexford’s Darragh Rossitor and Eoin McGucken were a threat on occasions but were well marshalled by some good defending by SDFL. However, a quick exchange of passes on the edge of the box between Darragh Rossitor and Tony Crosbie finished with Rossitor forcing an excellent save from the SDFL keeper who finger tipped his effort around the post. There were further half chances throughout the first half from Wexford’s Conor Sutton with a long range shot that was charged down and an Eoin McGucken effort on his weaker foot from just inside the box went narrowly wide with the keeper struggling. Wexford didn’t have it all their way. SDFL had chances of their own and indeed tested this Wexford side on occasions. A Wexford move down the right broke down and led to SDFL ranging in on goal only for Paul Murphy to pull off an excellent tackle. A similar move down the left broke down only this time Padge Doyle pulled off another good tackle. Dylan Murphy was also tested between the posts were he was forced into a couple of saves from long range efforts in a below par first half performance from Wexford. The second half would see Wexford up there game and create more chances with Darragh Rossitor once again keeping the SDFL defence busy and forcing good saves from their keeper. Wexford’s pressure would finally pay dividends when a half cleared ball was pounced on by Rossitor whose shot was deflected by the keeper’s save into the path of Eoin McGucken who had the simple task of chipping the stranded keeper from the edge of the box to put Wexford in front. SDFL fought hard to get back into the game but their only clear chance came from a free kick which floated harmlessly over the bar inside the last five minutes. The introduction of Aaron Maddock saw Wexford control the midfield and create more chances with penetrating runs from Maddock and Dale Kirwan. Wexford have just one more game to play in the competition. That game is scheduled for the 21st February against Kilkenny in Curracloe.
