Penalty heartache for Wexford U15s

Wexford lost out in the quarter-final of the national U15 competition at Curracloe last Saturday, going down 8-7 in a penalty shootout after a 4-4 draw with Waterford.

The Wexford boys were two up after 10 minutes through Gary Delaney and Stephen Tobin, but Waterford levelled before the break.

Within 15 minutes of teh second half, Wexford had gone 4-2 ahead, through Stephen Tobin and a great goal from Aaron Kinsella

At this stage the Wexford boys relaxed and allowed Waterford to take control. The visitors scored a third goal following very bad defending and with five minutes to go, notched the equaliser.

Penalties followed and Wexford went out on an 8-7 scoreline.

Wexford team manager PJ Murphy would like to thank the squad of 20 players, along with coaches Damian Keegan, Pip Murphy Karl Devlin for all their work.

PJ also thanks all parents for bringing the boys to training and matches for the past seven months.

The team will now take a break, but will be back training at a later stage in preparation for the Galway Umbro Cup in August.
