Under-15s through to knockout stages

Wexford 3   NEC 1

Wexford Under 15s are through to the knockout stages of this season’s inter league competition following their 3-1 win over NEC on Saturday 28th march. Wexford had to win at Curracloe to be sure of second place and they did, on a 3-1 scoreline, despite bebing without three key players, Kieran Walsh, Carl Doyle and Danny Fitzpatrick.

The home team were ahead after just five minutes when good play by Timmy Dwyer and Dale Galway resulted in an NEC defender slicing the ball into his own net. Wexford strikers Timmy Dwyer and Stephen Tobin were giving the NEC defence a torrid time and it was Tobin who put Wexford two up on 30 minutes.

But NEC fought back, and as Wexford took their foot off the pedal, pulled a goal back to leave the half time score 2-1. The visitors piled on the pressure after the break, but Wexford notched their ‘insurance’ goal when Stephen Tobin scored with 20 minutes on the clock.

This was a very good team performance with Rajw Kumar deputising at centre half and doing very well. Wexford will now play either Cork or Waterford in the last eight of the competition.
