Under-12s claim point from DDSL

Wexford U12s took on DDSL at Gorey Celtic’s ground on Sunday 13th Dec 09 and had the perfect start when Darragh Rossitor scored after five minutes. Rossitor continued to test the reigning Cashin Cup champions, but Shane Ellworthy and full back Jack Tuite were causing Wexford problems. The highly impressive Sullo Fuad in the centre for DDSL was exceptional, giving Aaron Maddock a tough afternoon. In the second half, DDSL upped the pace of the game and created a lot of half chances but Paul Murphy and Padge Doyle were solid at the back for Wexford.

Three half time substitutions nullified DDSL’s threat down the left with Paul Brennan’s inclusion being a calming influence in a busy midfield.

He took a firm hold on Fuad Sullo before being taken out of the game after an unfortunate clash with Fuad on the edge of the DDSL penalty area. The visitors levelled with a wonder strike from full back, Jack Tuite. However, rather than push for the winner the DDSL surprisingly stood off the game allowing Wexford to take control.

The two half time subs, Eoin McGucken and Daniel Brennan combined down the left and a McGucken strike put Wexford back in front with 15 minutes left on the clock. It was more than McGucken deserved having had an excellent finish ruled offside minutes earlier.

DDSL stepped up a gear in response. Shane Byrne was introduced on the left wing with Richie Purdy switched up front and with just two minutes left he leveled the game with a good finish. It wasn’t over at that. A hungry Wexford pressed again, Nathan Brennan thought that he had scored the winner but somehow a DDSL foot blocked his powerfully struck shot on the edge of the six yard box with the ‘keeper in no-man’s land.

But the DDSL raced forward following that scare and once again Richie Purdy forced a fingertip save from Dylan Murphy in thrilling end-to-end finish to a good game between to very good sides.
