WEXFORD U16s THROUGH TO NATIONAL SEMI-FINALS
THE WEXFORD & District Schoolboys League hosted an under-16inter county mini tournament involving Wexford, North Dublin, Midlands,Carlow, Kildare and Wicklow lastweekend. The tournament was divided into twogroups of three teams with the winnersgoing through to the semi-finals of thisseason’s national Paul O’Neill Cupcompetition.
Wexford were in action at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday morning (11.30am) and beat North Dublin in their first game, with the only goal of the game scored Eoin Rhodes in the first half.
Mick Wallace’s team then took on Midlands at 2pm and their 2-0 victory ensured them a place in the last-four. The goal scorers were Ryan Delaney and Adam Diskin.
The third game in the group saw Midlands account for North Dublin on a 2-1 scoreline at Ferrycarrig on Sunday.
Kildare were the other team to qualify from Leinster. They played their games at Curracloe and beat Carlow 1-0 on Saturday. They took on Wicklow on Sunday and their 4-2 win saw them claim the second semi-final place.
Wicklow were down to play Carlow, also on Saturday, but the game didn’t take place due a mix-up in kick-offtimes.
