Kennedy Cup 2011 Update

Wexford 2 Athlone 0
The Kennedy Cupt  team got off to a great start on Monday when they beat Athlone 2-0. Wexford were the better team and went one up early in the first half to settle their nerves.
It remained this way until the last few minutes of the game when a great move up the left win was finished to the net to give Wexford a dserved win.
Wexford goals were scored by Paul Brennen and Eoin McGurkin. Dylan Myrphy made a great double save to keep Athlone out early in the second half which gave Wexford the platform to go on to win the game.

Tuesday 14th 12.00
Wexford 0 Midlands 0

Wexford had the chance to meake it two wins out of two when they had a great chance to go ahead in the first half with a penalty. The penalty was well taken but unfortunately it hit the post and was cleared.
This game was very tight and there were very few clear cut chances and at the end of the first two games in the group, Wexford are on top of the group on goal difference. Later tody they play their final match in the group against Wicklow.

Tuesday 14th 7.00
Wexford 1 Wicklow 2

In what was a very disappointing game against poor opposition, Wexford failed to produce on the night and went down 2-1. Wexford finished 2nd in thier group and now face NEC in the quarter final of the Bowl tomorrow at 1 pm.

Wednesday
Wexford 1 NEC 0
In what turned out to ne a very close game in the Quarter Final of the Bowl, Wexford were back to playing some goof football after the disapponting performance against Wicklow. Paul Brennan was again on target for Wexford which was the only goal in the game to put Wexford through to the Semi-Final.

Thursday 12.00
Wexford 0 Mayo 1
Wexford were unlucky against a welll organised Mayo side who showed good composure and ball control. With honours even at the break Wexford were now playing against a strong wind which Mayo took advantage of just after ther restart and got the all-important gaol. This gave Mayo a lift and they controlled the game early in the second half. Wexford, to their credit, showed some great character and played their way back into the game and with a bit of luck could have had a equaliser late into the game, but it was not to be. They naw have to lift themselves to play thier final game of the Kennedy Cup tonight at 7.00
