Calendar year football is on the way
Calendar Year football is on the way and the new-look season will be rolled out in Wexford in early 2019.
Our games will be played between February to November each year and in the lead-up to this we will run a mini season from September of this year for approximately 12 weeks.
This is not summer soccer, there won’t be blanket fixtures in June, July and August.
With the new format there will be a more even spread of fixtures. From 2020, all 32 leagues affiliated to the SFAI will be playing calendar year.
It’s a new challenge for Schoolboys football, and hopefully will further improve the game and make it better for all concerned, especially the young players.  Clubs will be kept up to date with further developments, and working together we’ll make a success of the new format.

·     The Wexford U12 Yellow team were in Plate final action away to the Midlands League last weekend and although they battled hard they eventually lost out on a 2-0 scoreline.

·     The Wexford U13 team played their Plate semi-final against Carlow in Bunclody on Wednesday night of last week and were very unlucky losers on a 2-1 scoreline after extra time.

·     There were cracking games in last weekend’s U14 Cup semi-finals with both games going to extra time and penalties. Forth Celtic and Shelburne finished 1-1 and it was the Murrintown hot-shots who were successful in the penalty shootout, winning 3-2. It was 0-0 between All Blacks and Wexford Albion with All Blacks winning 4-2 on penalties.

·     Shamrock Rovers are through to the U16 Cup final after travelling to Rathangan and edging out Fastnet Rovers on a 1-0 scoreline on Saturday last.

·     Wexford Celtic’s under-14 SFAI Regional Cup semi-final game against Waterford’s Villa FC went ahead at Sinnottstown Lane on Monday night when a very strong Villa team were 4-0 winners.

·     Forth Celtic’s under-13s, along with North End’s under-15 and under-16 teams will be competing in the SFAI Regional Cup finals which will be hosted by Wexford over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

·     Don’t forget – midweek and weekend games are now in full swing with league winners and cup finalists being decided. There’s no shortage of big games and clubs should check the fixtures for ALL age groups on the Schoolboys League website.

League winners are asked to forward presentation photographs to info@wexfordschoolboys.ie for publication on the website.
