North End U16s the pride of Wexford
NORTH END’S U16s were the pride of Wexford Schoolboys football as they claimed a place in the last-8 of the SFAI Cup on Sunday. The Wexford squad made the long journey to Donegal to play Quigley’s Point Swifts in their last-16 tie and returned home triumphant after scoring a 3-1 victory.
Forth Celtic’s U12s welcomed St. Kevin’s Boys to Murrintown on Saturday for their last-16 SFAI Cup tie but it was the top Dublin club who were celebrating at the final whistle, following a 4-1 win.
The U15s of North End also had a last-16 Saturday home game against Tipperary club Peake Villa, which was played at Curracloe, and the Wexford team were unlucky extra-time losers on a 3-2 scoreline.
·  Ryan Delaney is on the way to Wembley after Steve Davies struck a stoppage-time equaliser to earn third-tier strugglers Rochdale a deserved 2-2 draw in a cracking FA Cup fifth round tie against Premier League side Tottenham on Sunday. Former Wexford Kennedy Cup player Ryan played a big part in the fairytale result and was outstanding in the Rochdale defence. Rochdale, bottom of League One, can now look forward to a money-spinning replay at Tottenham's temporary Wembley home. The replay has been provisionally scheduled for Wednesday, February 28th. In the meantime, Rochdale will face fellow strugglers MK Dons in League One action on Wednesday evening and will be away to title chasers Wigan on Saturday. The cup replay winners will face either Swansea City or Sheffield Wednesday in the quarter-finals.
·  Another former Wexford Schoolboys League player, Aaron Dobbs, who is now on loan to Wexford FC from Shamrock Rovers, scored twice as Ireland under-19s completed a clean double-sweep of victories over their Romanian counterparts in Murcia last week. After a scoreless first half, Dobbs broke the deadlock five minutes after the break with a brilliantly-taken header from Cieran Dunne's left-wing cross. The Enniscorthy ace doubled his tally on the hour as he arrived at the back post to volley home another Dunne cross. Romania managed a consolation goal from the spot late on through substitute Georgie Merloi but Tom Mohan's side held on to make it two wins from two on Spanish soil. It was ideal preparation for the Irish squad's upcoming European Championship Elite Round qualifying games in Portugal in March, where they'll face the hosts, Slovakia and Kosovo.

·  Kilmore United cruised to the Under-15 Division 2A title on Saturday with a big 6-0 win over visitors Moyne Rangers. The champions, who are managed by Paddy Moore and Andrew Irwin, were presented with their trophy and medals by Dave O’Brien of the Schoolboys League committee following the game. Kilmore’s victory saw them make it eight wins from their eight league games played to date.

·  Simon Barnes’ Wexford U12 Purple team will travel to play Kilkenny in their final Subway Championship Group 3 game on Sunday. The tie has a 2pm kick-off.
·  The action continues in the Wexford Schoolboys League even age groups on Saturday, with plenty of top league and cup games down for decision – check our fixtures for a big game near you.
